Home

The Quarterdeck comprises 46 apartments and penthouses within Gosport Premier Marina, at the waterside of Portsmouth Harbour.

Each apartment has a private balcony overlooking the harbour, with panoramic views of the Historic Dockyard, the Naval Base which is home to the Royal Navy’s new aircraft carriers, and the Spinnaker Tower. In front of The Quarterdeck the marina has berths for about 400 sailing and motor yachts, including several historic vessels. It is also home to the Clipper Round The World race fleet.

Location and Transport

The Quarterdeck is adjacent to Gosport High Street and the bus and ferry interchange. The Gosport Ferry runs some 200 services daily 364 days a year. The service connects directly with the Harbour rail station, with half-hourly connections to London Waterloo, as well as services to the west and east including Gatwick airport.

We are about seven miles from the M27, undergoing improvement from 2019 to 2021, with the road links into Gosport.

Shopping and Eating

Gosport is unusual in having five town centre supermarkets within walking distance of the Quarterdeck, several of which offer home deliveries. There is also a range of chain and independent shops for everyday necessities. Big name brands are found in Gunwharf Quays via the ferry.

The Boathouse Bistro adjoins the Quarterdeck and at the marina entrance is the Castle Tavern. Gosport has restaurants and eateries to cater for all tastes, including Italian, Thai, Spanish, Bengali, Chinese, Middle Eastern and traditional British. Fine dining is found in Old Portsmouth and Southsea.

Recreation and Heritage

Gosport is surrounded on all sides by water and has an estimated 24 miles of coastline, with lakes, creeks, saltings, wild grounds and nature reserves. The great amphitheatre of Stokes Bay was important in the D-Day landings but has been restored to nature. With the meadows on the land side, it was rated as one of the top ten picnic sites in England. The peninsula is entirely flat and is threaded with safe cycleways.

The history of Gosport as the depot for the Royal Navy is readily found in the Submarine, Explosion! and Diving Museums. It is described in a series of information boards around the town. Since 1992, the town has hosted the country’s largest array of Heritage Open Days every September, in which historic sites, as well as several normally closed to public view, are briefly opened.

Information about events in Gosport can be obtained from the Tourist Information Centre in the Bus Station, Ferry Gardens.

The Maritime Influence

In addition to the Museum and Gallery with periodical national exhibitions, there are four commercial art galleries, most with a maritime flavour. Gosport was the birthplace of ocean racing in the 19th century, building the great J-Class yachts and the America’s Cup challengers. With Alex Thomson, Gosport’s local hero in the Vendee Globe, and the Clipper fleet, Gosport is returning to these roots.

Gosport is at the heart of the busiest yachting and motorboating area in the UK, and hundreds of yachts pass The Quarterdeck on a summer weekend. It’s easy to take part in dinghy sailing, sailboarding and stand up paddle boarding, even if you have no experience. There are yachts for charter and training courses close at hand too.

There are sailing clubs at Hardway, Stokes Bay, Lee-on-the-Solent and Hillhead, and a Junior Sailing Club on the protected waters of Stoke Lake, as well as a number of RYA recognised sailing schools. Search for the facility that suits you at Sailing Clubs in Hampshire

Security and Communications

There is a gated car park at the rear of the building with spaces allocated for each apartment. Secure entry to the building is by electronic fob and there are lifts to all floors.

The development is fully cabled with hyperfast full fibre gigabit internet from Hyperoptic, becoming the first major apartment block in Gosport to have such a service. There is also a socket for Sky TV in every flat.

Managements

Completed in 2001, the estate is maintained to a high standard. The company, The Quarterdeck Gosport Limited, owns the freehold and all leaseholders are members. The company elects the directors who report periodically to the members and annually at the AGM, set the maintenance standards and fix the service charge.

The company appoints the managing agents: Dack Property Management, a local firm based in Southsea.
